Our long term exploration Investment Galileo Mining (ASX: GAL) has just kicked off its latest round of drilling at its nickel-PGE project in WA.

GAL-1-Drill Rig

With the latest round of drilling GAL is looking to make new nickel-palladium discoveries to the north & south of its existing Callisto discovery.

At Callisto GAL has a JORC resource equivalent to ~1.27m ounces of palladium or ~91k tonnes of nickel.

GAL’s program is for ~2,500m of drilling across ~9km of strike.

Drilling is expected to take ~3 weeks to complete with assays due in December.

Here is where GAL is drilling relative to its existing discovery:

GAL chasing South African Bushveld style discoveries:

With its latest round of drilling, GAL is looking to replicate its Callisto discovery and prove district scale potential for its project.

The reason why GAL’s project could have that district-scale potential is because it's the first “Platreef” style discovery made inside Australia.

That just means it's the first discovery in Australia that has geological similarities to the discoveries across the northern limb of the Bushveld Complex in South Africa - home to companies like ~$15BN Ivanhoe Mines.

The Bushveld complex is believed to be home to around 75% of the world’s known platinum resources.

The similarities between the deposits found in South Africa and GAL’s Callisto are:

  1. They share the same host rocks - Both are hosted in the same type of rocks (Mostly disseminated sulphides).
  2. There is district scale exploration potential - the South African deposits come together to form a giant PGE district. GAL still has ~20km of strike to test to the north and south of Callisto AND ~12km of strike at its Mission Sill prospect.

GAL is now drilling across the 20km trend next to Callisto and expects to kick off a second round of drilling across the Mission Sill trend in late November.

What’s next for GAL?

Now that drilling is underway, we will be looking out for an encouraging visuals that may indicate GAL is hitting similar style geology to its Callisto discovery.
